To: DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioners:
I have lived in Bensenville whole life. As you all are well aware the City of Chicago has done tremendous damage to our village and the worst is yet to come. Because the O'Hare expansion has effected my village and my family I have taken an obvious interest in reading many articles to learn as much as I can. I know that one of the requirements and concerns was maintaining wetlands since some would be destroyed from the expansion.
My brother, who lived in Bensenville until he built his home in West Chicago, will now also be directly affected by Chicago's expansion because his house is on Mack Road. Even moving so far west of O'Hare has not kept Mayor Daley from trying to ruin his home area, too. Why do the so called leaders of DuPage county continue to bow down to this man? It is time to stand up for what is right and protect this area from development.
My grandfather was forced to move his farm twice from the Elk Grove area while he was alive due to eminent domain. He finally moved out to Huntley to get away from Cook County. My Dad's family church, St Johns UCC was moved from it's original place because of O'Hare expansion. And now the current expansion wants to destroy the St Johannes Cemetery which is part of my family's history also. This pattern of take and destroy to benefit the pockets of the City of Chicago and Cook county needs to end!!
Please do the right thing and do not allow this complex to be built in the Blackwell Forest Preserve. I am a registered voter and have voted in almost every election. I will make sure I know which of you fight against this project and which of you let Mayor Daley win again. And my votes will go to those who oppose this project.
We understand that funding for this project is, in large part, provided by a wetland mitigation agreement with the City of Chicago. According to Mayor Daley, the purpose of the mitigation funding is “to create and maintain 90 acres of new, high-quality, publicly accessible wetlands within DuPage County West Branch Forest preserve…” Use of these funds to build a Fleet Maintenance complex is not acceptable!
As a voter and a taxpayer we urge you to vote to stop the start of construction on the Fleet Maintenance complex. We further urge you to find a location for this complex that is not on "green" Forest Preserve land that is meant for public enjoyment.
Regards,
Kim Schoppe, Bensenville
