Open Letter to Chairman Pierotti re: 7/21/09 Promised Agenda

President Pierotti,

Thank you for presenting a fine history lesson to the assembled throng at the FPDDC Commission meeting Tuesday evening.  I was particularly taken with your description of the Thanksgiving week 2002 shenanigans when you outfoxed your fellow County Board Commissioners just before the creation of the two separate boards.  However, during your remarks I heard nothing regarding the entire maintenance campus plan.

At the Planning Session Meeting of May 12, 2009, as documented on page 2 of the approved minutes thereof posted on the FPDDC’s website, “In response to Commissioner Kotecki’s request President Pierotti said an evening board meeting would be held in June to review the entire maintenance campus plan.”  I understand that due to the pressures of approving a budget, that meeting was later postponed, originally to July 14, and finally to July 21.  In the agenda for the FPDDC Commission Meeting for July 21, 2009, under the caption “PRESIDENT’S REMARKS” is the entry “BLACKWELL MAINTENANCE CAMPUS PLAN”

Mr. President, I and well over one hundred and twenty other concerned citizens attended that meeting to hear about the maintenance campus plan, and WE DID NOT HEAR IT.  I expect public officials to honor commitments made to their constituents, particularly those made in documented public meetings.  Based on comments you have made at several recent public meetings, I am sure your grandchildren also have that same expectation.

Please inform me and other members of the public when you plan to honor your commitment to present the Blackwell Maintenance Campus Plan at an evening meeting of the Commission whether it be a Commission Meeting, a Planning Meeting or a Special Call Meeting.  Also, please inform us of the commitment to present the information in as public a forum as that in which the original commitment was made and with at least as much advance notice.  Include the date and time of such meeting, so that I and others can inform anyone interested in attending.

Respectfully,

Robert C. Whitney
Cantigny Dr.
